Elevator Inspections

What a difference 3000 miles make.

While in CA, elevators, or lifts as they say on the other side of the pond, are way way behind in inspections such that you'll see many an elevator still last checked back in 2001 (I wouldn't be surprised if my last residence, Ortega, _still_ hasn't been inspected), NY has the exact opposite effect. Things are up to date. So up to date in fact that one of the elevators in JC's apartment has a last checked date of 7-13-07. That's pretty awesome. They've discovered time travel here in NY. If only they would tell those CA inspectors how do it, then maybe we'd all be in the present.

DONUTS! Even more expensive!

I got a Dunkin Donut in Manhattan the other day.

$0.94! That's $0.11 more than last time (though that was in Queens). Egad! Never buy a donut in Manhattan. Heh.

White Castle

Though not as crazy and Harold and Kumar's adventures, I braved the edge of Harlem to get my White Castle fix. Mmmmmmm.

Nothing like eating some White Castle, listening to the Yankees game and having a ... Sprite. =)

Jogging around Central Park

I've never jogged around Central Park before. Not until today that is.

Figuring I should stretch my legs after a weekend of ultimate, I set out to conquer Central Park...or at least the Reservoir.

Central Park is indeed quite nice to run around...scenery wise...plenty to see...very easy to distract yourself from the huffing and puffing. The only downside is that you may get passed by plenty of fellow joggers on your route. Fortunately for me, I went at around 4PM where the work during the day, jog at night crazies weren't out. So I was able to enjoy a nice run around the park at my own pace, though this one lady gave me a run for my money.

Ran about 2+ miles at a nice easy clip. The reservoir route was nice in that it even had distance indicators. 2700 yards (possibly meters) round trip. Maybe I'll try it again some time.

We're not compatible with that software

I have to write this somewhere. I guess this counts as random.

I have an Airlink101 wireless router (AR420W). Works great for normal every day activity. Stable, etc.

But if you use VPN, you better watch out. Well, most VPNs are apparently compatible, but just not the one my company uses. If you use Nortel's VPN software, DON'T buy ANY airlink product. It just doesn't work. I called up Customer Support, explaining my situation, that no matter what I tried, I couldn't get VPN to work. Fortunately, the lady cut me off from spewing out all the gory details. She asked one simple question. Are you using Nortel software for VPN? "yeah, why?". "We are not compatible with Nortel VPN software. All other VPN software is fine."

Damn. What do you say then? GIVE ME BACK MY MONEY! I dunno.

Waiting at the airport

Here I am, waiting at the airport...having arrived 80 minutes early. Good thing I was a tad slow compared to the 2 hour minimum that the TSA was suggesting. The checkin took me all of 2 minutes and the security line, all of 5. Nothing special seemed to be in the offing.

However, I wouldn't say that this is peak hours (11:45PM flight), so YMMV (your mileage may vary) on your own experience.

Off to NYC. (after I wait another hour)
