Couple cell phone tricks

I was flipping through the channels today and happened upon the geek show on Discovery (I forgot the exact name but it has Geeks in it).

Anyway, the guy was talking about cell phones and offered a couple useful tidbits that I'll be sure to use in the future.

The first...when you get someone's voicemail, unless you called a Sprint customer, you'll likely get the long winded message about leaving a page, or a voicemail or something, and then finally the beep will arrive. Apparently, each provider has a way to skip that.

Sprint's is advertised on the message as: 1 (just hit 1)
Verizon is *
T-Mobile and Cingular is: #

Now you don't have to listen to the long voicemail greeting anymore.
Beware, I think if you hit * on Sprint, you get the owner's voicemail menu (or at least prompt for a password).
Same for Cingular.

The other thing that he mentioned that may be useful to some (especially when stuck in a meeting and they need to get to HGT), www.popularitydialer.com. This site allows you to basically set a time for your cell phone to be called, and when you pick up the call, everyone around you will hear a voice on the other side trying to imitate a real conversation. Good for those times when you want to get out of a meeting. =)
