Nintendo Operated Safeco Field

Went to a Royals vs Mariners game last night courtesy of WandST. Once again, I forgot my binoculars, but that's another story.

This night, instead it was...what cool things are at Safeco Field (well, besides the baseball game). I'd long heard about Nintendo's influence of the ballpark in that you could download some software on your Nintendo DS and heighten your baseball experience. I brought my DS to see what they had to offer.

The quick review. Eh. To enhance the actual game experience they had a couple of neat things.
1) Live video feed (delayed by about 1-2 seconds), including audio. My guess is it was the TV feed.
2) Pitch tracker feed, so you can see where each pitch landed. That was kinda neat in that they'd show the pitch location a split second after the pitch was caught/hit.

Other things loosely related.
1) Food ordering. You could place an order and have it delivered to your seat.
2) Instant message other users (with only canned messages)
3) Play games like trivia or word search and compare scores to other users' play
4) scores from around the league
5) News from around the league (i assume)

Still, I'm not sure much of this actually enhances your experience. I know I missed nearly half the game because I was tackling the trivia game so I could end up the top trivia answerer (mission accomplished!). On the other hand, there wasn't much in terms of rallies or anything in this game. Most of the runs scored by HRs...

Which brings me to the other highlight of the night. The Call.

WT needed to get some water (I think...not sure...I was busy answering trivia) and was trying to figure out the best time to walk away from the action. Alberto Callaspo, the light hitting 2b of the Royals was at the plate...perfect time right? As WT slipped past me, I gasped, "you can't leave now! You're going to miss the HR!". WT chuckles and heads on up the stairs. Two steps later and the very next pitch...Callaspo connects on a drive to deep right...going, going, WT and the ball are gone!

Heh, just goes to show...if you predict enough things...sometimes they come true.
