Wally Luck (tm) for me!

In the past couple years, my old Canon S400 had been acting up. Occasionally, it would start complaining about a Memory Card Read error. Even after I switched to a new card, it would still happen. More and more frequently, until finally, I decided to look on the web to see if this was isolated. Turns out it wasn't. It was a known defect. Fortunately, I waited over a year before I did anything because it seems at first, Canon refused to do anything. But finally after much pressure (possible suit?) they agreed to accept any defects and repair them free of charge. So I decided to send my S400 in...just after Thanksgiving. January arrived and I had not yet received any new word on my camera (besides that they had received it). I got an email reply, after I inquired, that said the parts they needed were delayed, so it'd be a little longer.

Finally, yesterday, I got a delivery notice from Canon, and went to pick up my package today. When I got the box, I immediately opened it, to see if any discernable fix was made. After opening the shipment box, I saw a camera box for a different camera (SD630) inside. Couple thoughts popped into my head. Did they ship the wrong camera to me? (I had recently had a mixup with Footlocker where they sent me 2 hats instead of some shoes and sunglasses...even though the invoice said the shoes and sunglasses). Eventually, I rationalized, that they were probably just reusing a box and probably just didn't have any more S400 boxes. I opened the box, and saw that it seemed full. Odd, I thought. I only sent in the S400. Why is it full? I then went straight for the repair paper (instead of looking further into the box), and quickly scanned it. At the bottom of the paper, I read, "Repair Action: Replaced S400 with SD630" What?! A quick flip of some instruction manuals and lo and behold, I had myself a new SD630.

Of course, this was not what I was expecting at all. Either for sentimental reasons, or that I already have an SD800, or because the SD630 meant all my Compact Flash cards were now useless, my first response was..."Hey, wait a minute!" But then sanity took over, and I was like...cool!

Now, after seeing Wally score some insane/fortuitous deals, I've finally gotten a taste. Heh.
